Oliver Grange offer interpretation services in the majority of known languages, and work only with qualified and trained interpreters. All interpreters undergo a tailored selection process, in which we look at accreditations, security checks and obtain references for work carried out previously.

It is essential to us that they follow this stringent process as once they are successful they will be required to follow a code of conduct. This gives us the confidence that our interpreters will be providing a professional service and are able to deal with our clients demands.

We provide interpreting to all business and public sector organisations, and possess interpreters that are able to adapt quickly to the changing needs of our clients and their environments.

All our interpreters have live experience and varying qualities and skills to help tailor our service closer to client core requirements. Interpreters are required to abide by a confidentiality agreement and are required to follow company protocols when representing both the client and Oliver Grange.

We work closely with government and private institutions and are trusted by them to continually meet their demands. Our interpreters have been involved in varying projects with our clients which include, hospitals, business ventures, prisons and a whole host of other environments.

To control the quality and continued success of our interpretation facilities we have dedicated project managers who administer the whole process dedicating their time to creating a level of understanding between the client and ourselves so we know the needs of our clients are never compromised.

Simultaneous Interpreting

Usually required at multi-lingual events, meetings or conferences where it may be required that a few languages are interpreted. Simultaneous interpretation requires accurate interpretation, at the same rate of speech as the speaker, with only a few seconds of lag time. The speaker speaks into a microphone, the interpreter who sits in a booth hears the sound through a headset and interprets the message into a microphone almost simultaneously.

Consecutive Interpretation

This is used when there are two languages being spoken. The speaker delivers his speech and pauses allowing the interpreter to then speak in another language. This type of interpretation is mainly used in smaller meetings, interviews, court proceedings, training sessions or anywhere else where only one other language is involved. There is no requirement for any specialist equipment and is a practical approach in many scenarios.

Whispered Interpretation

Usually only one recipient of the interpretation and only one foreign language involved. Used in scenarios such as site visits, one 2 one meetings or business negotiations. The interpreter sits beside the speaker and whispers the interpretation to them during the meeting. It’s a less formal type of language interpretation.

Sign Language

Having excellent language skills is not enough for Sign Language Interpreters. They also need to recognise and appreciate the culture of the deaf community. As an organisation we understand the importance of inclusion for those reliant on sign language.

As interpreters to the deaf it is important that sign language interpreters have a particular interest in linguistics and have the experience to understand the formation of different language types. A non-judgemental attitude and the ability to feel comfortable within the deaf community are essential. Good social skills and the ability to work independently and with respect for different beliefs and cultures are also essential.

We work meticulously with our Sign Language interpreters to ensure that consideration is given to the many different factors involved in their work. Our interpreters are aware that although circumstances and locations may change, awareness and sensitivity remains the same.

All our Sign Language employees are BSL registered and are also qualified to at least A level standard in English.

Telephone Interpretation

Our telephone interpretation service allows customers to communicate with the service user promptly and is best used to pass on small pieces of information or conduct short interviews.
It provides our clients with the opportunity to access an interpreter immediately, especially when there are limitations geographically.
Our telephone interpreters are all qualified and fully trained in their subject areas and their performance is continually monitored to ensure the customer is receiving an effective and professional service.

Benefits

The benefit of telephone interpretation is that not only can an interpreter be provided almost instantly but it also gives the service user the option of not having an interpreter physically present if they prefer not to due to cultural or religious reasons.

Disadvantages

Telephone interpreters cannot see you and therefore are unable to notice the kind of body language that helps to convey a message.
However, although a telephone interpreter cannot observe body language he/she is trained to detect any other indications such as hesitation or change of tone.
